USC Pays Tribute to Junior Seau

A special message stenciled on the sidelines at the university's opening football game honored the former USC Trojan

The University of Southern California honored late alum Junior Seau from the sidelines Saturday during the university’s opening football game.

The former San Diego Chargers icon and USC Trojan was remembered by his alma mater with a special message stenciled on the sidelines -- between the 10 and 20-yard line -- that read: “#RIP 55.”

The USC Trojans’ Twitter page teased the tribute with this tweet: “In honor of Junior Sear, #RIP55 is painted on the Coliseum turf.”

The tribute turf wasn’t the only special token set aside for Seau.

During the game, the Seau family was presented with a USC football jersey bearing the number 55.

Seau was a standout player for USC during his college years in the late 80s.

Sunday marks four months since Seau took his own life at his Oceanside home on May 2.

On Aug. 20, Seau’s autopsy was released and the report confirmed the football superstar had no alcohol or illegal drugs in his system at the time of his death.
