Lifeguard Seriously Injured After Performing Rescue Released from Hospital

An on-duty lifeguard who suffered a serious injury when performing a rescue in La Jolla has been released from the hospital, officials confirmed to NBC7.

The lifeguard was in the water and hit by a wave at Windansea Beach at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday, said San Diego Lifeguards Lt. James Gartland. 

Officials said they were not able to talk about the type of injuries the lifeguard sustained due to regulations. 

The lifeguard was taken to the ICU at UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest after he was injured.

He was released Monday.
