Two people in El Cajon need a place to stay after flames tore through their apartment Sunday.
The fire broke out at the home on Diamond Lane around 11 a.m. Sunday.
"They came out of the residence, went back in and saw a lot of fire, a lot of smoke. The residents tried to put out the fire with a garden hose, but were pushed back by the fire," Converse said.
Within three to four minutes, three engine companies were on the scene, according to San Miguel Battalion Chief Larry Converse.
The apartment directly upstairs sustained a bit of smoke damage but it's vacant, he said.
The cause is under investigation.
