Fire Reported in Chula Vista Canyon

Firefighters responding to blaze behind Ralphs shopping center

Firefighters in Chula Vista responded to a blaze in a canyon near a Ralphs shopping center Tuesday afternoon.

The small fire started burning in the vegitation just east of Discovery Park near Otay Lakes Rd., Chula Vista fire authorities said.

The fire was knocked down shortly after crews arrived at about 5:30 p.m., but smoke could be seen in the surrounding area.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.

Fire investigators were requested to determine the cause of the fire.

Last week, a string of brush fires was started in the same area of Chula Vista. Police are still looking for the arsonist or arsonists responsible for those fires.
