Driver Leads Police on Pursuit Spanning Several Freeways

A driver led police on a pursuit across several San Diego freeways Thursday night but ultimately could not escape.

Officials say the chase began around 7:30 p.m. when an SDPD officer attempted to pull over a driver for running at red light. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away and a police pursuit ensued.

Officials say the driver hopped onto southbound Interstate 805, then drove onto eastbound State Route 54, followed by northbound SR-125, westbound SR-94, southbound I-15 and finally, southbound I-5.

The driver then exited at Main Street and drove on surface streets in National City before finally stopping at Grove Court neat Lincoln Court.

The driver was then taken into custody.

No further details were immediately released by officials. No one was injured in the pursuit.
