A man who was trying to avoid deputies led them on a chase along Interstate 8, exited in El Cajon and crashed his car into a light pole.
The chase began in Lakeside when deputies tried to stop a driver in a white HHR who was accused of trying to break into an ATM.
As the car approached the intersection Fletcher Parkway and Cuyamaca Street in El Cajon, the driver appeared to lose control and crashed head-on into a light pole.
The driver jumped out and started to run along Cuyamaca until a canine caught up to him and pulled him to the ground.
Deputies arrested the driver and pulled contents from the car after the arrest. They found drug paraphernalia and tools that could be used to break into an ATM, according to deputies.
They also used a fire extinguisher underneath the car to stop a car fire from sparking.
The crash happened right outside the Forest Park Apartments.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for injuries he received when jumping out of the moving car and from the canine.
