Busted Pipe = Muddy Morning Commute

Some Point Loma residents woke up to no water for coffee or even a shower Thursday morning as a broken water main that caused a headache for evening commuters caused even more headaches for morning commuters.

"It's like a river, actually, it's like a river, I've never seen it this bad,โ€ Point Loma resident Remy Inman.

A crew from the city water department was working to repair a 16 inch cast iron pipe at the corner of Nimitz Boulevard and Rosecrans Street.

Itโ€™s one of two pipes that broke Wednesday just after 4 p.m.  The other one was a 6-inch pipe, which has since been repaired.

120 homes were still without water at 8:30 a.m. Public Information Officer Arian Collins said.

About 12 water valves had to be turned off initially for workers to get to the trouble spots.  A 20-foot piece of pipe has to be retrieved to replace the section that broke.

A worker said he hoped to restore water by 7 a.m., but said it might not be restored until noon.

If you are traveling through the area, expect delays and detours.
