According to authorities, the fire sparked in the middle of a field on the 8300 block of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard just before 11:30 a.m.
By 11:45 a.m., fire crews had the flames under control and were starting to completely knock out the fire.
No structures were threatened, authorities said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
