Oregon Homicide Victim Identified as San Diego Teen

A teenager, reported missing in San Diego four months ago, was identified Monday as the victim in an Oregon homicide investigation.

Mayra Sophia Cruz Rodriguez, 15, was first reported missing June 15 while she was visiting relatives in Vancouver, Washington.

Nine days after the report was filed, investigators in Portland discovered the remains of a young woman in a park.

Homicide investigators tried to help identify the murder victim by sending a sketch to law enforcement agencies across the nation.

One Clark County detective recalled bulletins on Mayra Cruz and helped Portland investigators connect the two cases.

Officials said they made the final identification using dental records.

A transient and convicted sex offender has been charged with Cruz’ murder and 10 other criminal counts.

According to a Portland television station, Mark Beebout pleaded not guilty to the charges.
