Attempted Suicide Call Ends in Standoff: Chula Vista

A 26-year-old man was hospitalized after a standoff with Chula Vista police who were responding to an attempted suicide call at a residence in Chula Vista Friday evening.

CVPD arrived at a residence in the 800 block of East Palomar Street just before 7 p.m. after receiving a call about a suicidal subject with a gun inside his residence, according to a media release.

Officers surrounded the home and made contact with the man inside via telephone, police said.

The man was reportedly seen walking inside the residence with a gun and admitted to police that he did want to kill himself, police said.

The incident ended when officers deployed PepperBall rounds, causing the subject to drop the rifle, at which point he was taken into custody.

The man was later taken to a hospital for mental health evaluation.
