A preliminary magnitude-4.4 earthquake has struck west of Los Angeles in the Santa Monica Mountains.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported the earthquake at 6:11 p.m. yesterday about seven miles northwest of Malibu.
A watch commander at a Los Angeles County sheriff's station near Malibu says he felt shaking. He says there were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.
The quake struck 37 miles west of Los Angeles.
