3rd Marine Dies at MCAS Miramar

Another Marine has died after being found unconscious at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, according to base officials.

The Marine was found unconscious on Thursday. He died en route to a local hospital.

β€œThe cause of death is currently under investigation,” said Sgt. Sean McGinty.

His identity was withheld pending family notification.

Another Miramar-based Marine died last Saturday.

Cpl. Jerome Ventura, 23, of Holtsville, N.Y., was discovered unconscious and taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Ventura’s death is also under investigation, according to Marine Corps officials.

Sgt. Alexis Fontalvo of Houston, Texas, died on base on March 17, according to the North County Times.

Fontalvo's family members told the Houston Chronicle newspaper he died during a training flight.

β€œMarine Corps officials who notified family members of Fontalvo's death … told them the left main landing gear apparently collapsed prior to takeoff on a training flight as Fontalvo pulled the landing gear pin,” the paper reported.

Military officials have not officially released the cause of death.
