Man's Body Found At Scene of Ramona House Fire

The body of a man was found Sunday near the rubbles of Saturday's house fire in rural Ramona, a sheriff's deputy said.

The unidentified man was found around 8:45 a.m. about 50 yards from the home on the 20000 block of Black Canyon Road, San Diego sheriff's Lt. Kenneth Jones said.

The man was believed to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, he said. When the blaze broke out around 5:20 p.m. Saturday, someone reported hearing a possible gunshot, the lieutenant said.

A woman and a child were displaced by the fire and a male resident was unaccounted for, according to Cal Fire. When firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed.

Because of the intensity of the fire, firefighters were in defensive mode β€” letting the fire burn itself out and trying to keep it from spreading, Cal Fire said.

The fire burned out around 9 p.m. and all that remained standing was an unstable wall. All units were cleared except for one engine that remained overnight in case of any flareup, Cal Fire said.

It was unclear if the body found was that of the missing man. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death as well as the man's identity, Jones said.

The cause of the fire was unknown at this time.
