Several drowning calls in Chula Vista have prompted city officials to offer a free water safety workshop for parents Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.

The Water Awareness in Residential Neighborhoods (WARN) program was launched after three drowning calls in Eastlake neighborhoods since Labor Day.

A pediatrician from Centers for Disease Control will talk about water safety and drowning prevention. A man who lost his grandchild will also speak, and the San Diego Red Cross will sign up adults for CPR classes.

The event is being held at the Ruth Chapman Performing Arts Center. For more information, call (619) 691-5099.
