Tequila That’s Great for Sipping

Fans of “Entourage” are learning more about Tequila thanks to Turtle’s new business venture, but San Diegans can get a lesson or two this weekend during Spirits of Mexico Festival Day.

Ask yourself – do you know the difference between tequila añejo and tequila plata?

If the answer is no, head to the newly renovated Cosmopolitan Hotel & Restaurant Saturday, 6 to 10 p.m. for the gathering that’s touted as the largest, oldest and most comprehensive agave festival in the U.S.

You’ll find more than 200 styles of tequila in recognition of Mexico’s 200 years of independence.

Tickets for the evening are $50 in advance or $60 at the door.

Agave spirits will be sampled 'neat' and accompanied by culinary delights from The Cosmopolitan's kitchen.

Festival goers can also take in a seminar on how the spirits are made and how to differentiate between the different styles of tequila.

If your evening is booked, swing by the Plaza de Las Armas in Old Town’s state park in the afternoon for the Taste of Old Town Fiesta of Flavors from 1 to 4 p.m.

Tickets to the afternoon tasting event are $25 and the public is welcome.
