Sounds Like San Diego: June 6

Speedy Ortiz tear through Soda Bar Wednesday with a critically acclaimed new album in tow

On any other day, I'd probably tell you that if you didn't grab tickets to the Kooks' show tonight, you're totally missing out, but you're in luck because there are some seriously legit shows happening all around town. For one, Capital Cities is playing the San Diego County Fair, so if you're already heading there, you might want to stick around to grab a spot in the Grandstand. But even without that, Howlin Rain is back at the Casbah in anticipation of their fifth record dropping this Friday, and legends the Yardbirds are playing the Belly Up. But what is exceptionally exciting is that Speedy Ortiz is returning to San Diego with a show at Soda Bar. The band is awesome, but frontwoman Sadie Dupuis -- who has also released music as Sad13 -- is unparalleled in the way she can play math-y licks not only on her guitar but in her vocal phrasing, and it is amazing to see and hear live. The latest record, "Twerp Verse," is awesome and once you give it a spin, you're certain to have it on repeat for a while.
