What a soaker!
Steady rain fell over the county from about midnight through 4 a.m. Wednesday. It's the best rain event we've seen in months and it may not be over yet. There's still a chance of scattered showers through tonight and lingering into Thanksgiving morning. On top of that, as the atmosphere heats up, thanks to the big breaks between rain bands, we could see some thunderstorms during the afternoon and night and even early Thursday before the system exits the county altogether.
Totals have been good so far, from a couple of tenths of an inch at the low end to an inch downtown at Lindbergh Field and much more than that in the foothills. Again, scattered showers are still possible and thunderstorms, should they hit, could produce brief, heavy periods of rainfall over parts of the county. As a precaution, a flash flood watch remains in effect for all areas through tonight.
Looking ahead, your Thanksgiving will be cool, breezy and partly cloudy with a chance of showers or thunderstorms early then, come Friday, the sunshine returns and by Saturday we'll be looking at "sunny and 70s" for all areas west of the mountains.
In addition, Wednesday is one of the busiest travel days of the year and you should expect delays, not only at the airports but on all the county's major freeways as well.
