Owner Confirms Padres in Play

The owner of the San Diego Padres confirms in a published report that the Friars are on the block.

Earlier this month, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that prospective suitors were being courted and that Goldman Sachs had been hired to aid the sale. On Monday, club owner John Mo ores confirmed the move to MB.com. He reportedly said the investment firm will analyze whether to sell the entire team or part thereof.

Mo ores bought the Padres 13 years ago for about $80 million. Forbes Magazine valued the Padres earlier this year at $385 million,

The troubled team has been cutting it's payroll in recent weeks, trading star shortstop Khalil Greene to Saint Louis, and is now shopping ace pitcher Jake Peavy. Many suspected the moves were being made to make a Padres deal more attractive.
