Controversy Grows In SEDC Scandal

There is more financial fallout over the scandal involving the Southeastern Economic Development Corporation, with reports that a consultant received contracts worth $350,000.

The report in Monday's VoiceofSanDiego.org said at least the last eight years, Angela Harris had received no-bid consulting contracts from ousted President Carolyn Smith that had paid her more than $350,000. The work was not disclosed.

A city audit found Smith awarded herself and other executives bonuses in excess of $1 million.

Harris was very emotional the night the board of directors considered Smith's fate.  She said, "To Carolyn Smith, I love you. You are a phenomenal woman, you have done a phenomenal job and the City Council and mayor can go to hell."
