Pyles' July Show Supply

Tim Pyles ushers in an endless summer with July's best shows

I can only do so much for you, the rest is up to you. Think of this as a cheat sheet for the month, but remember that I book some of the nights at the Casbah, so some of the shows mentioned below I booked and would appreciate your support! I still don't know what Comic-Con has in store this year, but that is this month too! It's all about time get out and see a show!

July 1: Cat Power at the Observatory North Park. Chan Marshall is singer, songwriter, actor and occasional model.

July 2: The New Addiction, the Montell Jordans, Misc. Ailments and Plane Without A Pilot at the Casbah. A great night of local pop-punk!

July 3: Booty Bassment at the Casbah. It's a dance party!

July 4: Fireworks!

July 5: Melvins at the Casbah. Heaviest of the heavy and ready to melt your mind!

July 6: Herb Albert and Lani Hall at Embarcadero Marina Park. I wonder if he will have the Tijuana Brass with him.

July 7: The Paranoyds and the Regrettes at House of Blues Voodoo Stage. A night of girl bands with boy drummers!

July 8: "The Life of Brian" at Casbah. A night celebrating Brian Karscig of Convoy, Louis VIX and the Nervous Wreckords.

July 9: Stokka, Glam Skanks and Pleasure Fix at Casbah. Tonight we rock the Casbah!

July 10: Junior Brown at the Belly Up. A throwback to when country music was good.

July 12: Tony Bennett at Embarcadero Marina Park. The reigning king of standards, big band and show tunes.

July 13: The Velveteins at Soda Bar. Indie-rock from Canada, eh?

July 14: Schizophonics, the Creepy Creeps and Hollywood Sinners at Casbah. Two of the best live bands San Diego has to offer on the same bill.

July 18: Belladon, Retra and Nowhereland at Casbah. Local music lives at the Casbah.

July 19: Tears For Fears, Hall & Oates and Allen Stone at Valley View Casino Center. Two bands I never thought I would see on the same bill, but somehow it works.

July 20: Retro Futura Tour with Paul Young, Modern English, Howard Jones, the English Beat and Men Without Hats at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre. Relive the '80s!

July 21: Dead Kennedys, Authentic Sellout, Sculpins and Systematic Abuse at Brick By Brick. Punk, punk, punk, but where's the Jello?

July 22: Reggie Watts at the Irenic. This dude is bonafide and on "The Late Show with James Corden."

July 27: David J's "Vagabond Songs Tour" at Casbah. He's been in Bauhaus and Love & Rockets -- 'nuf said!

July 28: Violent Femmes at Del Mar Fairgrounds. Legendary folk-punkers!

July 29: Kitten, Love Glow, and Sights and Sages at Casbah. This is gonna be a good one, come support Kitten from LA and a couple local bands.

July 30: Cayetana at Casbah. Something good from Philly that rocks -- and it's not a cheesesteak.

July 31: Elf Power and Tobin Sprout at Casbah. Athens, Georgia indie-rock band with a member of Guided By Voices solo opening up.

See what I mean? That's just the first layer, so dig in for yourself, resources are everywhere! Hopefully, I will see you at a show!
