San Diego Rubik's Cube Competition

A LOT OF MILLIONS: The number of possible Rubik's Cube combinations is in the millions, correct? Or would it be billions? Or are we dealing with a figure that is just way beyond that? Regardless of how many different ways one can position the brightly hued squares of the cube, we can call the possible combination number extremely high. But that number will not be daunting the quick-wristed participants in the San Diego 2011 Rubik's Cube Tournament. The tourney is set to unscramble at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on Saturday, May 28.

THE COMPETITION: If you're thinking of joining, best look over the schedule (yep, there's a blindfolded round). If you just want to watch, that's okay, too. The Fleet is located in Balboa Park, so we'd definitely plan a picnic-type situation. Because a long-weekend Saturday in Balboa Park? Yep. It's a little slice of sweetness. True, watching all those fast cube-twirling hands may raise viewers' temperatures, but chilling out on the grass later will cool everyone right down.
