All my indie-rock friends are buzzing about Wednesday's Jacco Gardner show at Soda Bar, and with good reason. The "neo-baroque" indie-rocker from the Netherlands came on the scene around 2012, garnering real attention, but it was after opening for the Allah-Las at the Casbah last year that -- at least among my friends -- he became a sought-after musician. He's back with a headlining show, again with Barbarian (who were also on the Casbah bill), and this promises to be a great night of fuzzy, '60s-inspired tunes that have a modern and unique twist. Around town, it's Ladies Night at the Casbah with Sister Speak, Nightmare Air brings their shoegazey rock to U-31, and Big Mountain return to the Belly Up.
