When Sir Sly did a Monday night Casbah residencty about a year ago, I got into a debate with a friend. He was suggesting that the band's name wasn't actually pronounced "Sir Sly" but instead was a take on the texting shortcut for the word seriously, often abbreviated as srsly. I think I won that argument, but regardless, this band is seriously great, and it would behoove you to check them out when they play Third Thursday at the Hard Rock Hotel, along with Okapi Sun and Gavin Turek. If you're looking for a great singer/songwriter, though, Griffin House might be the guy you're looking for down at the Casbah, though I'd suggest getting there early as the singer/songwriters tend to get earlier set times than the usual indie, punk, or garage rockers. Van She is over at Soda Bar, and if you happen to be heading to the Belly Up for Sunset Sessions, do not miss Jeremy Messersmith, who is one of my favorite musical discoveries in the past few years.
