Google Invests in Internet Security Firm Dasient

Google Ventures invested in Dasient, a Palo Alto Web security company founded by two former Google employees, the company reported today.

"Malware is one of the fastest-growing threats on the Internet today, and Dasient has developed innovative solutions that aggressively tackle this problem head on," Karim Faris, partner at Google Ventures said in a released statement. "We are excited to be working with the Dasient team to help build and grow the company as the worldwide leader in Web anti-malware."

Dasient said it would use the new investment to increase their research and development team and work on new ways to prevent malware attacks.

Dasient was founded by two former Google employees Neil Daswani and Shariq Rizvi, along with another founder, Ameet Ranadive, with no Google affiliation. The security company protects websites from malware, or programs that can hack into programs or systems, that corrupt or steal data and revenue.

The amount of the Google Ventures investment was not disclosed. The company has raised $4 million since its inception in 2009.
