Shellye Leggett

Shellye Leggett joined NBC 7 in September 2023.

She’s originally from Las Vegas, Nevada (Go Raiders!), but is well traveled in the journalism world.

Shellye lived in Chicago for 7 years and graduated from North Park University in 2012, with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies. She also played collegiate softball and ran track there. She then earned her Master of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from DePaul University in 2014.

Her first TV job was in Bozeman, Montana at KTVM NBC Montana. She covered the education beat that included a major drug bust at Montana State University, where 9 students were accused of making, selling and possessing dangerous drugs from their dorm rooms.

After a year in Bozeman, she spent a few short months in South Bend, Indiana at FOX 28 before accepting her first behind the scenes role as a morning news producer at KKTV in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Two years later, she was back on camera. Reporting for KOAT in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She covered many major news stories that grabbed national attention including the murder of 10-year-old Victoria Martens, the El Paso Walmart shooting, and the launch of New Mexico’s first professional soccer team. She even won a New Mexico Broadcast Association award in 2020 as part of team coverage of the Cardinals Pregame Show.

Shellye stepped into an anchoring role for 2 years in Medford, Oregon at KOBI NBC 5. She was instrumental in the newsroom by taking on several roles including anchoring, reporting, executive producing and mentoring other journalist. But storytelling and reporting has always been her first love, so she’s very happy to be back to reporting in America’s Finest City.

Shellye recently got married and her husband is stationed at Naval Base San Diego. She’s very happy to be able to live and work in the same city as him and the rest of her family in SoCal.

When Shellye isn’t reporting, you can catch her spending time with her friends and family, playing referee to her 2 cats, Tootsie and MoReece, trying different foods at the best local spots and of course working out after trying different foods at all the best local spots.
