Olympian Gabby Douglas Leaves Coach for California

Olympic all-around gymnastics champion Gabby Douglas has left coach Liang Chow's program in Iowa to join her family in California.

Missy Parton, whose family hosted Douglas during her training in West Des Moines, says the 17-year-old left Iowa earlier this week to reunite with her family. Douglas' mom and her older siblings recently relocated from Virginia Beach, Va., to California. Parton stressed Douglas and Chow remain on "good terms."

Under Chow's guidance, Douglas won two gold medals in London last summer. She helped lead the "Fierce Five" to the top of the podium in the team competition before becoming the fourth American to win the all-around title. Douglas returned to training earlier this year, and said last week she hopes to return to competition sometime in 2014.

Douglas' mother, Natalie Hawkins, did not immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press on Wednesday.
