Woman Shot, Killed on San Diego Sidewalk

An employee at a nearby business heard a gunshot and told officers he could see the victim on the sidewalk

A woman was killed Friday, shot in the head about a block away from a San Diego trolley station, officials said.

The victim, described only as a woman who appears to be in her 30’s, still had her purse on her when she was found by San Diego police homicide detectives.

Officers were called to 31st Street between Imperial Avenue and Commercial Street just before 4 a.m. An employee at a nearby business heard a gunshot and told officers he could see the victim on the sidewalk.

The initial report said the woman was shot to the head but homicide investigators were not giving many details, confirming that she suffered at least one gunshot wound.

The county’s medical examiner was called to the scene.

Officials have no suspect information other than a witness description of a man wearing a blue sweatshirt walking in the area.

So for now, investigators were processing evidence at the scene and questioning people in the area to try and learn any other information.

The crime scene was located approximately a block west of the 32nd/Commercial trolley station.
