San Diego police officers arrived to the corner of Hornblend Street and Garnet Avenue around 1:30 a.m. and found a 22-year-old woman drunk, unconscious and partially nude.
Witnesses told police they saw a man standing near a silver truck take a photo of the woman in the south alley of the block which houses a 24-Hour Fitness.
Shortly after police say the man got in the truck with another person and took off.
The woman regained consciousness while under treatment at Scripps Hospital officials said. She is voluntarily cooperating with investigators who are working to piece together what happened.
Investigators told a gym employee they would return Friday to see if the building's security cameras offer any information as to what may have happened.
San Diego police are investigating the incident as a possible sexual assault but said Friday afternoon they are not actively searching for a suspect.
