La Mesa will soon be home to a Walmart Neighborhood Market store, Walmart announced Friday.
The store will be located at a formerly vacant 39,000-square-foot building at 8820 Grossmont Blvd.
A media release from Walmart said the store plans to employ around 65 local associates.
“I am looking forward to the new Walmart Neighborhood Market coming into La Mesa. The store will be a welcome addition to our city and will help generate more economic activity for neighboring businesses,” said La Mesa Mayor Art Madrid.
Walmart’s “Neighborhood Market” concept focuses on bringing fresh and affordable groceries to consumers.
This La Mesa location will be the second Neighborhood Market to open in San Diego.
The first location was in Sherman Heights, and faced much opposition from locals.
Eventually, construction resumed on that particular location.
Walmart has not yet revealed when the new La Mesa location will open.
