A 41-year-old man was arrested Monday after Border Patrol agents found two Mexican citizens in the trunk of his car.
Agents at the Pine Valley Interstate 8 checkpoint were conducting a brief search of the man’s 2005 Acura RL sedan at 11:30 a.m. when they discovered the two men in the trunk.
The confined men had no water and no way to escape from inside the trunk, and they admitted to officials they were not legal citizens of the U.S., according to Border Patrol.
Officials confiscated the car and arrested the driver, who faces federal charges for human smuggling.
