A San Diego police officer was recovering at a local hospital after he fell while chasing a suspect early Wednesday.

A Mid-City officer tried to stop a man on a bike around 12:30 a.m.

The suspect, believed to be involved in a burglary, led police from 28th Street to North Park Way then to Morley Field where he got off the bike and ran into a canyon officials said.

When officers chased the suspect on foot, one of them fell and injured himself. He was taken to Mercy Hospital to be checked out.

The suspect got away.
