SD Fire Rescue Hands Out Door-to-Door Safety Info

San Diego Fire Rescue and San Diego CERT handed out wildfire safety information door-to-door in the Canyon Rim neighborhoods.

Fire Cadets and community volunteers delivered approximately 8,000 brochures covering over 120 miles Saturday.

They distributed the "Ready, Set, Go! Wildland Fire Action Guide.”

The guide advocates making your home ready in case of a wildfire by clearing brush away from your house, using fire-resistant landscaping and having emergency supplies and belongings in a safe place.

Next you should be set by staying on top of the news and updates from the local fire department.

Lastly, you need to be ready to go when it’s necessary to evacuate.

"We are grateful to the volunteers who gave up their time today, and endured this heat to make this effort a success," Assistant Fire Chief Brian Fennessy said. "We encourage everyone who found that literature at their door to read it and follow its advice."

Neighborhoods included Carmel Valley, Clairemont, Normal Heights, Paradise Hills, Scripps Ranch, Mira Mesa, Del Cerro, Otay Mesa and City Heights.
