Most 10-year old kids are busy trying to fit in with the crowd but Brandon Hales has bigger things on his mind.

The Point Loma boy grew his hair out 10-inches to donate it to the “Locks of Love” campaign .

For a year and a half, Hales endured some teasing while he grew his hair.

Some people said he was doing a nice thing, others told him he looked like a girl.

Earlier this week, he cut it all off and had a very simply explanation for why he did it.

"Some kids have cancer and other people might make fun of them because they don't have hair so I just decided to help so they don't get teased and stuff," Hales said.

Hales is a fifth grader at Dana Middle School in Point Loma.

Locks of Love provides hair pieces children suffering from long-term illnesses.
