A man is dead after police tried to pull him over during a routine traffic stop in Santee. A California Highway Patrol officer tried to pull the man over on the southbound 125 near the 52 around 9pm on Sunday, according to Officer Brian Pennings of the California Highway Patrol.

The man pulled his car over in the middle of the bridge, got out of the car and jumped over the railing, Pennings said.

The man had been driving a car that had been reported as stolen, Pennings said.

Investigators are unsure whether the man knew the height of the bridge before he jumped.
