‘War Machine' Appears In Court on Assault Charges

Witness testified at a preliminary hearing today for the mixed martial arts fighter War Machine

A mixed martial arts fighter appears at a hearing in a San Diego court house.

The former UFC fighter named War Machine appeared at the preliminary hearing on Tuesday morning. The fighter is charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Witnesses testified at Tuesday's hearing about two separate incidents that occurred earlier this year at two Pacific Beach bars.

During one incident, War Machine allegedly smashed several glasses on a bar top when he was asked for identification. Helen Geesman, a bartender at the Last Day Bar, said she was hit with glass during the incident.

"He got more and more irritated and then swiped his arm toward me -- swiped the whole bar clean, and there was quite a few bottles on the bar and the glass hit me," Geesman claimed.

The other incident occurred at Thrusters Lounge in Pacific Beach in March. War Machine was taken into custody after the incident, during which he allegedly used a deadly weapon -- his fists -- during an altercation at the bar.

War Machine appeared on the sixth season of "The Ultimate Fighter," which is produced by the UFC. He legally changed his name from Jon Koppenhaver to War Machine.
