Man Injured After Attempted Car Theft

Vehicle located shortly after, but suspect still at large

Police in Carlsbad are searching for the man who attempted to steal another man's car Monday night.

Police said the victim came across the suspect attempting to steal his car near the Macy's parking lot of Plaza Camino Real just before 8 p.m. Monday, according to a spokesperson with the Carlsbad Police Department.

The suspect took off in the man's car, but abandoned it not far from the parking lot. He then fled on foot.

The victim was injured during the carjacking, but it is unclear when the victim was injured. Medics responded to the victim, who complained of pain.

Police describe the suspect as a 6'1'' man, about 180 pounds, with a slim build, red hair, and a goatee. He was wearing a black jacket and dark pants.

Officers launched a search in the area for the suspect on foot, in the air and with search dogs.
