Escondido Police Search for Shooting Suspect

The suspect shot the driver of a van in the head on Jul. 31

The Escondido Police Department released a sketch Thursday of a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting that happened in the 1100 block of East Mission Avenue.

On Jul. 31, police received several reports of gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a male victim inside a van suffering from a gunshot wound to his head.

Witnesses told police they had seen a young male suspect shooting at the victim’s van, which caused the victim to crash into a telephone pole.

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting and police were unable to locate him.

Police described the suspect as a 17 to 18-year-old dark-skinned Hispanic male with spiked black hair and bloodshot eyes, as depicted in the sketch above. He was last seen wearing a white shirt, baggy blue pants and white shoes.

Police said the victim who was shot survived and continues to make progress in his recovery.

Anyone with information should contact Escondido police.
