San Diego Man Killed Rock Climbing in Idyllwild

A San Diego man was killed Saturday while rock climbing in a popular hiking spot in Idyllwild.

Bryan Rockwood, 49, died during a climb on the north face of Lily Rock, according to published reports.

The NBC affiliate in Palm Springs, KMIR-TV, reports that Rockwood was harnessed at the time.

Witnesses told firefighters that rocks tumbled down on the climber near Tahquitz Peak.

At an elevation of 8,828 feet, the peak provides the highest lookout in the San Bernardino National Forest.
