16-Year-Old Arrested in Fatal Oceanside Shooting

Same neighborhood experienced a shooting earlier this month

A 17-year-old was shot to death in an Oceanside neighborhood early Sunday morning.

On Wednesday, Oceanside police arrested a 16-year-old in connection to the shooting, according to Lt. Joe Young with the Oceanside Police Department.

Oceanside police responded to calls of a gun shot heard nearby at about 2 a.m Sunday. When they arrived to the scene in the 400 block of Grant St, they found the teen, Antonio Carachuri-Perez suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics treated the Carachuri-Perez at the scene and later air-lifted him to Scripps Hospital. He died from his wounds shortly after, police said.

The 16-year-old police arrested was charged with robbery and a gang allegation, Young said. The robbery occured just a few minutes before the shooting when the juvenile suspect stole jewelery and electronics from Carachuri-Perez at gunpoint.

A shooting ocurred in the same neighborhood earlier this month. Police still do not know yet if the two shootings are related.
