George R.R. Martin at a fan event showing the fourth season premiere of the HBO series "Game of Thrones," in New York.

Two "Game of Thrones" fans (with deep pockets) snapped up the chance to have a character named after them – and killed off – in the next book in the "Song of Ice and Fire" series.

All for a donation of $20,000 each.

Those character opportunities formed part of a competition in which "Game of Thrones" writer George R.R. Martin is offering the chance to win a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico where the winner and a guest will meet the author and join him for a wolf sanctuary tour and helicopter ride.

Martin is offering the prize as an incentive to raise funds for the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in New Mexico and the The Food Depot of Santa Fe - two of his favorite causes.

Other big rewards on offer included breakfast with Martin ($15,000), tickets to the "Game of Thrones" season 5 premiere ($7,500), one of Martin's worn caps ($7,500) and a signed script from the series ($4,500), all of which have been snapped up by eager fans according to the Prizeo web page.

But if you missed out on the character-naming opportunity or any of the other big-ticket treats, fret not. You can still enter the competition for the meet and greet for as little as $10.

"If you make a small donation to my campaign, you will automatically be entered to win an incredible experience. You and a friend will be flown out (from wherever you are in the world) to meet me in Santa Fé, where we'll share a helicopter ride to the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary," Martin writes on the campaign site.

"In addition to touring the Sanctuary together, we'll also have plenty of time to discuss the show, 'A Song of Ice and Fire,' direwolves - and if there's anything you have ever wanted to ask me, here's your chance!"

And the more you donate, the more you get: For $50 you will receive 10 entries into the competition and an exclusive campaign T-shirt, $100 buys 20 entries and a signed map of Westeros, while those who donate $600 will receive 120 entries and a signed and dedicated "Game of Thrones" cookbook.

Die-hard fans should act quickly: only 13 of the 50 available cookbook rewards were still up for grabs at the time of writing.

Martin and his wife Parris McBride have long been supporters of the sanctuary, and in the video below he notes that the refuge even has a "Westeros Pack" on site.

HBO announced Friday that "Game of Thrones" surpassed "The Sopranos" to become the network's most popular series of all time, averaging 18.4 million viewers a week.
