There is a long tradition of acoustic musicians playing "in the round" in San Diego. To be honest, I don't know where it started or who started the idea, but I do know that it has lived on for several years because of people like Cathryn Beeks, who helps book, coordinate and get the word out about such performances. When Brick By Brick closed months ago, it appeared that the tradition had flickered out and would be no more. Fortunately, the venue has re-opened and under new owners, who appreciate the value of a home-grown music scene, and the in-the-round tradition lives on. On Thursday, you can catch performances by such amazing musicians as Berkley Hart, Josh Damigo, Nena Anderson and others at Brick By Brick. Around town, FMLYBND are at Soda Bar, Robert Cray plays to a sold-out crowd at the Belly Up, and the Hideout and Sycamore Den host worthy offerings this Thursday night as well. The Casbah is closed for a private party, so you'll have to get your fix this weekend instead.
