In late December, I had the opportunity to go to the famous Troubadour in Los Angeles for a benefit for Invisibile Children, headlined by Middle Brother. The band is a mini-supergroup featuring Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit. While sharing vocal duties, this band is the real deal, and it's finally doing a proper tour, with a stop at the Loft at UCSD for your listening and viewing pleasure. I might be biased and prefer Goldsmith's vocal stylings, but as a group, the harmonies are gorgeous, and the songs let the guys let loose. This week, members of Dawes backed Robbie Robertson on TV appearances on David Letterman and The Today Show, which should solidify their cred as one of the best workng bands around. Trust me when I tell you that this is a show not to be missed.
