Greg Laswell, one of my favorite artists, is a prolific singer/songwriter/producer currently based in Los Angeles. Laswell lived in San Diego in the early '90s while attending Point Loma Nazarene University. During his tenure here, Laswell gigged tirelessly, ran a record label out of a kiosk at the Fashion Valley mall and released multiple records (garnering San Diego Music Awards). The brilliant Three Flights From Alto Nido, released by Vanguard Records in 2008, contained several tracks featured in television shows, including Grey's Anatomy, 90210 and True Blood. Recently, Laswell released an EP of cover songs that features a classic rendition of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."
Laswell's forthcoming album, Take a Bow (due May 4), was recorded in a cabin outside of Flagstaff, Ariz., and he says he "could not be more excited about how it turned out." In preparation of the new release, Laswell has embarked on a Solo Residency Tour, which includes a stop at the Abbey in the Banker's Hill neighborhood of San Diego on March 10. It's a private KPRI show, and the only way to get in is by RSVP. Laswell is currently on the East Coast; I highly recommend you hit the link and give Laswell a warm San Diego welcome.
