Nacional Records doesn't disappoint when it comes to music releases, and they’re right on time, right on time with their “Día de los Muertos Playlist” [listen here], which features notable Baja acts Los Macuanos and Carla Morrison. It’s the perfect concoction of spooky Latin alternative tunes that’ll have you casting out demons and carving an award-winning pumpkin that looks like Danny Trejo in no time.
The compilation features Kinky’s frighteningly hypnotic track, “¿A Dónde van los Muertos?” with Tecate’s finest Latin Grammy winner Carla Morrison. The track was first released on their 2006 album, “La Reina,” and revamped with Morrison for the band’s 2014 MTV Unplugged concert. The remake made for duet bliss and shot up to No. 1 on iTunes Mexico.
And straight outta Tijuana -- Los Macuanos are at the wheel driving you into a haunting audio trap with “La Fantasma/La Maquilla.” But by mark 1:40, the Ruidosón trio dumps you onto a spooky cumbia floor somewhere in the red-light district. Its blaring brass horns and pre-Colombian percussion beats will certainly put you in a dance trance for a whopping five minutes, 26 seconds. Not surprising because this is what Los Macuanos are known for. “La Fantasma/La Maquilla” was originally released on their 2013 debut, “La Origen,” on Nacional Records.
The 15-track “Día de los Muertos Playlist” also features Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Torreblanca, Mexican Institute of Sound, Él Mató a un Policía Motorizado, A.J. Davila, LVB, La Vida Boheme, Senor Flavio, Centavrvs and the Chamanas.
