Former Padre Beats Padres

While Padres bats remained silent, a former Padre's was not. Anthony Rizzo homered in the third and seventh innings, pacing the Cubs to a 6-0 victory. He now leads the National League with 25 home runs. It was the Friars 15th shutout loss of the season.

Padres starter Eric Stults (3-12) took the loss. He labored through five innings on a sticky Chicago night. Stults gave up three runs on six hits, yet managed to strike out seven Cubs batters. Chicago starter Kyle Hendricks (1-0) pitched seven strong innings and in the process the rookie bagged his first major league win.

Game two of the three game series is under the lights Wednesday night at Wrigley Field.
