A new stretch of San Diego County's Bayshore Bikeway is ready for bike trail enthusiasts to explore. The bike path is a small, but important part of the whole.
The path connects Imperial Beach and Chula Vista, and is part of the Bayshore Bikeway, a 24-mile trail stretching across San Diego Bay.
Also known as the Silver Strand bike path, only about 13 miles of the path are currently in use and the rest is under construction, according to SANDAG.

County Supervisor Greg Cox told KPBS that bikers were forced to ride on State Route 75 on Palm Avenue -- a more dangerous path. Now, the new and safer path runs through an old railroad track and wildlife preserve.
Once additional funding for the project is identified, completion of the project could be expected by next year.
