Villegas Leads Buick Invitational

It was a beautiful day to start the first round of the Buick Invitational, and Camilo Villegas certainly took advantage.  He shot a nine under 63 on the North Course at Torrey Pines to grab the first round lead, and missed most of the rain that came late in the day.

Villegas has a three shot lead over both Davis Love, and Aaron Baddley, who shot six under 66 on the North.  Love was surprised, and pleased with his opening round.

"It was windy.  Some holes played long, and others short," said Love. "I'm glad I played the North today instead of the South.

Three-time Buick Champion Phil Mickelson played the south, along with Poway High alum Charley Hoffman.  Mickelson shot a two under 70, while Hoffman shot 71.

"It'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow," added Mickelson. "It'll be good to get on the North, and hopefully I can shoot a low number but the conditions will be tough."

A good deal of rain is expected tomorrow and Saturday.   A soft course will turn even softer, it'll be interesting to see how that effects the scores.
