Strasburg: $50M Man?

'If the draft was today, he’d be our guy': Washington Nationals

Next month, the Washington Nationals will make Stephen Strasburg the number one pick in the major league baseball draft. Fans in Washington, D.C. are already buzzing about the possibility of landing the Aztecs ace. What he did this weekend didn't do much to lower expectations.

Strasburg tossed a no-hitter Friday night in front of the largest crowd ever at Tony Gwynn Stadium, striking out 17 Air Force Fighting Falcons.

Nice work with the Nationals’ scouting director, baseball operations manager and acting GM in the stands. A writer from the Washington Post was there too blogging during the entire game.

Typically understated, Strasburg tried to downplay the accomplishment in his post-game interview. “As long as we got a W and the score is 5-0, that’s what I’m satisfied with,” Strasburg said.

Rumor has it, Strasburg's agent, Scott Boras, has said the conversation for a MLB contract starts at $50 million. All this talk has to be a distraction. “This season’s not over,” Strasburg said Friday. “We have a lot to accomplish.”

The Aztecs swept Air Force with a 12-2 win Sunday. They'll likely get a berth in an NCAA Regional. The Aztecs softball team already did. They get a trip to Tempe to face defending National Champion Arizona State.
