Poinsettia Bowl Teams Accept Invitations

Utes vs. Golden Bears

The University of Utah and the University of California's Golden Bears have accepted their invitations to play in the fifth-annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

The game featuring Utah (9-3, 6-2 MWC) and California (8-4, 5-4 Pac-10) will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23 starting at 5:00 p.m. in Qualcomm Stadium.

Utah, which owns the nation's longest active bowl win streak at eight games, is headed to its seventh-straight bowl. Last January, the 13-0 Utes beat No. 4 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and finished the season ranked No. 2 in the nation. California has a 10-8-1 all-time bowl record, most recently beating Miami (Fla.) 24-17 in the 2008 Emerald Bowl.

The two teams have never met in the post-season and have only met 6 times with California holding a 4-2 series lead. The Utes won last time the two teams met in Salt Lake City in 2003.
