Peavy News? Don't Count on It

It may be the talk of the MLB Winter Meetings, but according to one blogger the chances of a Jake Peavy trade being finalized this week are small.

ESPN writer Jayson Stark cites a source as saying the Cubs and the Padres “still have a lot of work to do” before finishing up any kind of deal surrounding Peavy.

With the team cutting payroll, Padres GM Kevin Towers announced in November that it's unlikely the 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner will remain with San Diego, which signed him out of high school in 1999.

Guaranteed $63 million under a contract that runs through 2012, Peavy also has a no-trade clause, so he can determine where he winds up.
